Research & Publications

As a socio-cultural anthropologist of sports and education, I am primarily interested in the ways in which sports coaches lead, instruct, and discipline their charges.

Teaching

I want all of my students to leave my classes having learned much, but eager to learn even more. I have the luxury of teaching about sports, a subject on which nearly everyone has an opinion, so I have been able to reach many students who might have otherwise seen academic study as a boring chore of the mind. I try to lead to them see how sports mirror the society at large, and then turn the mirror on themselves.

Consulting

In addition to teaching and research, I am an experienced cross-cultural government and business consultant. I currently assist two great organizations: Lead2Play, and Japan Intercultural Consulting.

Coaching & Professional Services

The goal of my coaching practice is to help others find wellbeing and a sense of community while also focusing on how they can become a more dynamic contributor to their community and thus the wellbeing of others.
