In this episode, our third on the 2020 Tokyo Games, we hear from two scholars who have been vocal opponents of these Olympics Games: Professor Jules Boykoff of Pacific University and Professor Naofumi Suzuki of Hitotsubashi University. As we heard from Professor Victor Matheson in the last episode, the costs of hosting the Games are enormous, but these costs are not only economic. There are environmental and social costs, too. Perhaps worst of all, there appears to have been misleading information fed to the Japanese public about these costs, which can breed distrust of government itself, and which is a cost that may be very difficult to calculate. So, grab a cup of coffee and listen to what these scholars say about what they think should be done to ensure that the indignities of these Olympics are never repeated.
